Heartland Regional Medical Center (HRMC) offers a wide range of general and specialty surgical procedures. Over the years, the reputation of the hospital and its staff of surgeons have established Heartland Regional as a leader in surgical excellence in Southern Illinois. And with over 6,000 surgeries performed last year, and another 7,000 plus anticipated for this year, HRMC has earned the trust of the communities we serve.

Heartland Regional Medical Center provides comprehensive surgical services. From minor procedures and same-day-surgery to advanced general, orthopedic, vascular, neuro, and open heart surgeries, our skilled surgeons work closely with our highly trained team of surgical nurses and support personnel to deliver expert care close to home 24 hours a day. The Surgical Suite consists of 3 general surgery rooms, 1 orthopedic surgery room, and 1 open-heart room. In addition, one minor procedure room is located just outside the surgical suite along with two procedure rooms dedicated for endoscopy procedures. Supporting the surgery unit, is a ten-bed post-anesthesia recovery unit.

Since the majority of surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, the Same Day Surgery unit has been located on the first floor in close proximity to the surgery department and adjacent to the recovery unit. The 26-bed unit is split into four separate areas each containing 5-6 private rooms. These rooms are used to prepare and recover all outpatient surgery patients and patients undergoing heart catheterization and other diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

Endoscopy

Heartland Regional Medical Center offers two designated suites for Endoscopy. Endoscopy is a procedure that allows physicians to see internal organs through the use of a flexible instrument that is inserted through the patient's mouth or rectum. Endoscopes use a video chip and strobe light to capture images displayed on a video monitor. The procedures are generally performed with mild sedation, so there is minimal discomfort.
